We respect your right to privacy and want you to understand how we collect and use your personal data. This Privacy Policy covers our data collection practices and describes your rights to access, correct, or restrict our use of your personal data.
This Privacy Policy applies only to the use of CEPHEI (Cooperative eLearning Platform for Higher Education in Industrial Innovation; project number E+CBHE 2017-3016/001-001) Project website and Content. Partner Universities who provide Online Courses and Content or other linking sites found on the Website may also gather information and you should consult those other parties’ privacy policies as appropriate and applicable.
By accessing CEPHEI Project via any means you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. You shouldn’t access CEPHEI Project if you don’t agree with this Privacy Policy or any other agreement that governs your use of CEPHEI Project.
CEPHEI project gather two types of information about users collected automatically and directly provided by you. Below there are some examples to help you better understand the data we collect.
1. Data collected through automated means. When you access CEPHEI Project, we collect certain data by automated means, including:
System Data | Technical data about your computer or device, like your IP address, device type, operating system type and version, unique device identifiers, browser, browser language, domain and other systems data, and platform types |
Usage Data | Usage statistics about your interactions with CEPHEI Project, including pages visited, time spent on pages, features used, your search queries, click data, date and time, and other data regarding your use of CEPHEI Project. |
Approximate Geographic Data | An approximate geographic location, including information like country, city, and geographic coordinates, calculated based on your IP address. |
The above listed data is collected through the use of server log files and tracking technologies. We also use or may use cookies. The collected data is stored and associated with your account.
2. Personally identifiable data provided by you or via third parties. We collect different data from and about you.
Registration Data | In order to become an industry partner or associated university partner, you need to fill the registration form. When you submitting the form, we collect and store the data you provide, like organization name, contact person full name and position, email address and details of participation in the CEPHEI Project. |
Shared Content | CEPHEI Project let you interact with other users or share content publicly by posting reviews on a course page, asking or answering questions. In order to share content in this way, you need to provide your full name and email address. Such shared content and you full name may be publicly viewable by others. |
Promotions and Surveys | We may invite you to participate in a promotion or complete a survey either through CEPHEI website or a third-party platform. If you participate, we will collect and store the data you provide as part of participating, such as your name, email address, date of birth, level of education, position. That data is subject to this Privacy Policy unless otherwise stated in the official rules of the promotion or in another privacy policy. Where we use a third-party platform to administer a survey or promotion, the third party’s privacy policy will apply. |
1. Data collected through automated means. We use data collected through automated means related to the use of CEPHEI Project to:
- Perform statistical analysis of trends and traffic;
- Improve CEPHEI Project and develop new products, services and features;
- Identify unique users across devices;
- Advertise CEPHEI Project on the third-party websites.
2. Personally identifiable data provided by you or via third parties. We use the collected data related to the use of CEPHEI Project to:
- Provide you information, products and services requested from CEPHEI Project;
- Provide technical support and to ensure security.
We may share your data with third parties under the following circumstances or as otherwise described in this Privacy Policy:
Course Teachers | We share data that we have about you (except your email address) with course teachers for you request information about, so they can improve their courses for you and other students. This data may include things like your approximate location, browser language, operating system, device settings, the site that brought you to CEPHEI Project, and your activities on CEPHEI website. If we collect additional data about you, we may share that too. We will not share your email address with course teachers. We also enable our teachers to implement Google Analytics on their course pages to track sources of traffic to their courses and optimize their course pages. |
Other Students and Teachers | Your shared content is publicly viewable, including to other students and teachers. |
Analytics Services | As a part of our use of third-party analytics tools like Google Analytics we share certain information, account data, system data, usage data, or de-identifiable data as needed. De-identified data means data where we’ve removed things like your name and email address and replaced it with a token ID. |
Advertising | We may use and share certain system data and usage data with third-party advertiser and networks to show general demographic and preference information among our users. |
Security and Legal Compliance | We may disclose your data to third parties if the disclosure is permitted by law; requested as part of a judicial, governmental, or legal inquiry, order, or proceeding; reasonably necessary to enforce our Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and other legal agreements; required to detect, prevent, or address fraud, abuse, misuse, potential violations of law (or rule or regulation), or security or technical issues. |
We will transfer your personal data to these partners only to the extent that these partners need access to your personally identifiable data in order to provide services to CEPHEI Project for the purposes defined in this Privacy Policy. CEPHEI Project has taken appropriate measures to ensure that in these cases your personally identifiable data will only be processed for the purposes mentioned in this Privacy Policy and in accordance with applicable legislation.
CEPHEI Project consider the confidentiality and security of your information as the highest importance. CEPHEI Project takes appropriate security measures to protect against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction of your personally identifiable data that we collect and store. We will not share it with third parties, except as otherwise provided in this Privacy Policy, or unless such disclosure is necessary in special cases, such as a physical threat to you or others, as permitted by applicable law. Unfortunately, however, no system can be 100% secured, so we cannot guarantee the security of personally identifiable data and there is some risk that an unauthorized third party may find a way to circumvent our security systems or that transmission of your information over the Internet will be intercepted. It is your responsibility to protect the security of your login information, especially your password as it is an important part of security system.
You have certain right in relation to your personally identifiable data use. If you would like to access, correct, or delete your personally identifiable data, email privacy@cephei.eu. We try to answer email and provide our response within the time period stated by applicable law. When you email us with a request, we may ask that you provide us with information necessary to confirm your identity.
If you reside or are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have the right to request that we:
- provide access to any personally identifiable data we hold about you;
- prevent the processing of your personally identifiable data for direct-marketing purposes;
- update any personally identifiable data which is out of date or incorrect;
- delete any personally identifiable data which we are holding about you;
- restrict the way that we process your personally identifiable data;
- provide your personally identifiable data to a third party provider of services; or
- provide you with a copy of any personally identifiable data which we hold about you.
We recognize the privacy interests of children and encourage parents and guardians to take an active role in their children’s online activities and interests. Children under 13 (or under 16 in the European Economic Area) should not use CEPHEI Project. If we learn that we’ve collected personal data from a child under those ages, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.
Parents who believe that CEPHEI Project may have collected personal data from a child under those ages can submit a request that it be removed to privacy@cephei.eu.

The server on which the CEPHEI website is operated is located in the European Union (EU). We strive to carry out all services related to our website using operators and services located within the EU or the European Economic Area (EEA). In some cases, however, services related to the use of our website may also be carried out by operators and on servers located in third countries. In such cases, your personal data may also be transferred outside the EU or EEA in accordance with applicable legislation. In regards to transfers of personal data to countries where local data protection legislation does not provide an adequate level of data protection, transfers are protected utilizing appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission, a competent supervisory authority, or binding corporate rules.
